How To Make A Cookie Monster Costume

If you decide that you would like to try your hand at creating this costume for your small fry you can do so for as little as $20.

You will need some simple items such as 3 yards of curly fleece in the bright primary blue color (if they don?t have this try another type of fleece or even a cotton if necessary), two Styrofoam balls, two google eyes, two pieces of light brown felt and one piece of dark brown felt, fabric glue or hot glue gun and sewing needle and/or machine.

You can also get a great costume pattern at the local craft store. They are not likely to carry the pattern for Cookie Monster but they will probably have a teddy bear like pattern that you can use. These only run about $1.50 a piece.

Follow the pattern except for the ears and the piece for the tummy. This will give you the general shape of the Cookie Monster costume.

Glue the google eyes onto the Styrofoam balls and then glue those onto the head of the costume. Using the light brown felt cut out two very large (oversized) circles.

Using a sewing machine run a stitch around the edge leaving a small opening. Turn the felt circles inside out and stitch up the bottom with a needle. No need to stuff them.

Cut out odd shaped from the dark for the chocolate chips and glue them to the big cookie. Another twist on this would be to leave one and of the cookie open and put a fabric handle on it using it as a goodie bag.

You could also make a cookie jar with the same type of felt and use that as the goodie bag.
